Excuses we've heard as recruiters
Ever had a candidate tell you their cat ate their interview prep? 😹 You're not alone! As recruiters, we've heard our fair share of creative excuses. Here are some of the most common:
- *'I'm lost and can't find the building!'* 📍 - Pro tip: Next time, maybe send them a GPS, a map, and a homing pigeon just to be safe.
- *'I woke up feeling ill today.'* 🤒 - This one might be genuine, but let's all agree, 'Netflix flu' is a thing. Always good to reschedule... maybe after their binge-watching session.
- *'My car broke down on the way.'* 🚗 - Encourage candidates to have a backup plan. Maybe Uber, a bike, or a teleportation device—whichever's fastest.
- *'I had a family emergency.'* - Life happens! Flexibility and understanding go a long way in these situations. Just hoping it wasn't a 'my dog ate my homework' kind of emergency.
Balancing empathy with professionalism is key. Sometimes, rescheduling can lead to finding that perfect hire, even if they come with a flair for the dramatic. Who else has heard some wild excuses? Share below! 👇
